Hello :) So things have been a bit quiet with projects for a couple of weeks. Food poisoning really knocked me back, and I'm just getting back on my feet again!
Anyway, it's my wonderful Dad's Birthday this week, and since he spends most of his time in the workshop with his printing presses, I thought he might appreciate some rags for that purpose alone!
I picked up a set of tea towels and began by cutting them in half and rehemming them.
I then added designs to each rag to create a unique series.
"ink" and "print", stitched using my sewing machine, and a range of coloured threads.
"print" and "ink" stencilled using Tulip Gellies black and a sponge.
"type" one and two, again using my sewing machine and layering fabric.
Aaaaaand... The complete set!
This concept would work great to make towels for anyone or any occasion!
I also made my Dad's Birthday card using leftover fabric...
Wow Helen these are sooo cool! What a unique and personal idea.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you are on the mend - food poisoning's a nasty thing to have to get over. Hope you are continuing to improve...

Very clever ideas and very clever use of techniques. I really like the layering ones.
ReplyDeleteThank you :) They took the longest, but they're my favourites too!

Helen what an inspired gift, they look great and I love the 'scrappy' card.......
ReplyDeleteObviously you've inherited his creative genes. I'm sure he'll be thrilled with this personalised gift.

They look incredible! I love it. What a great idea. I think I might just have to add this to my list of gifts to make for those that are difficult to find pressies for! Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThanks! And yes, some people are rather difficult aren't they?!

Hope you are feeling better...I just found your blog over on Kootoyoo. I love your rags they make a perfect gift I'm sure your dad will be really pleased. I've been researching my geneology recently and discovered I have some printers on my maternal grandfathers side of the family...no wonder I loved printing at uni.

Thanks Deb! He loves them so much he's asked for more haha.
DeleteThat's really exciting to have printers in your family :) My Dad is the only printer in my family, but he's certainly passed on his love of it to us all! Though saying that, I actually married a printer too!

A fabulous idea, Helen. Too good to use as rags. The card looks lovely, too.
ReplyDeleteThank you, I think my Dad is currently refusing to use them haha.
