Star Wars Cards

I was wandering around B&Q (a DIY store here in the UK) at some point last year, and I found a roll of Star Wars wallpaper. If you've read my blog for a while you will know that my husband is fairly obsessed with Star Wars, and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to buy it! We don't have a wall in our house to use it on at the moment, but it features a panel design, making it great to cut up and use in so many ways!

One way I've been using it is in card making. The big panels make nice A5 cards with a splash of colour behind them, whilst the mini-scenes within each panel make smaller cards in their own right. I've also been mounting the larger panels on mountboard for my husband to display around the house. Given that I have a whole roll of this wallpaper, I'm sure I will be using it in many future projects!

Darth Rabbit

If you've been following me for a while, you will probably be aware of our two gorgeous bunnies, Toffee and Flopsy, and that we treat them slightly like children! As such, Fathers Day and Mothers Day are suitably celebrated in our household.

I didn't have much time to work on a Fathers Day card from the bunnies this year, but as my husband is an avid Star Wars fan, I pondered the concept of a Rabbit Darth Vader... A quick Google search helped my design along the way, and I did a freehand sketch based on the image, using white pencil and black card. I cut out the areas I wanted using my scalpel, and mounted it :)

Star Wars: Darth Vader

Oh, I've got so many things to share with you lovely readers over the coming weeks!

First up is a series I briefly hinted at over on Facebook the other week... You may have seen these patterns for Star Wars amigurumi floating around the internet, designed by the brilliant Lucy Ravenscar. Well, I spent the first couple of months of this year working through them ready for my husband's birthday! His presents are being spread out in a small countdown until his Birthday, and so I will share them one at a time here as he opens them!

First up, if you hadn't guessed, is Darth Vader. Now, I made this little series of figures before I'd seen the films (which I now have!) and there are so many extra details I'd add to them if I was making them now... But, there are a few changes I will share with you, and maybe one day I'll make them again! (There are also a few proportion issues due to my random wool oddments haha!)

I decided Darth Vader needed his famous lightsaber to complete the look. This is only a temporary one until I can find a thin red straw, but I still think it's very effective! The handle is made with a cocktail stick, cut in half, and coloured silver (I used a marker pen, but you could use paint); details were added with black paint (but a marker pen would work). The red part of the lightsaber is a length of red scoobie (anyone remember them?!) with a length of wire inside to add sturdiness. The tapered end of the cocktail stick handle is inserted into the scoobie and it sits together nicely. Because Darth Vader is crocheted, he can even hold the lightsaber, and it can be removed - yay! The other change I made was to paint the eyes on, which I quite like.

Christmas Tree IV: Star Wars Snowflakes!

Darth Vader

OK, so these aren't going on our Christmas tree... But my husband received his play code for the pre-release of the new MMORPG Star Wars the Old Republic last night, so it felt fitting to share these! (Yes, I married a gamer who is also Star Wars crazy...)

Boba Fett and a Clone Trooper

They aren't perfect, but they're so fiddly they are good enough for me, and will help Christmas-fy our house :)
