Father's Day Card

Quite a simple but hopefully effective Father's Day card this year. The "Happy Father's Day" panel was another piece from a 2014 Craftseller paper collection, raised using 3D dots. The blue stars were also from a similar Craftseller collection based around 4th July - I managed to hide the more American bits of the design! I love the look of brown packaging paper, especially when torn, and I drew some stitching on to mirror the central panel.

"When the Wind is High..."

When I was a little girl, I'd sometimes venture into my Dad's study late at night. He'd put his record player on, and we'd dance... One song I vividly remember from these times is Kites, by Simon Dupree and The Big Sound. I wanted my Father's Day card this year to reflect these memories... a snow white kite, hints of gold, soaring high above... I made an origami kite, framed in gold. I added Liquid Pearls for highlights, and stamped on a few words from the song. I hope he recalls these memories like I do.

Father's Day Cards - Inspired by Craftseller Magazine

Cards. For. Men.
Did everyone collectively shiver?! Not an easy project!

I am not Craftseller magazines biggest fan (maybe a post on that another time?!), but when I saw the free "masculine" papers in their latest issue, I knew I needed to make the most of them, and push me slightly out of my comfort zone!

I don't use that much patterned paper, but these came together with nice designs, a nice colour scheme, and without the normal stereotype of sport, beer and suits! I added some silver from my stash to lift the matte-ness of the papers; and broke out my new 1" circle punch too!

I added some textured cream card to this one, and my 1cm circle punch added some extra details, although reluctantly as it really needs replacing! I love the juxtaposition of the angular stripes in circles.

I like having something different to my norms enter the art room, and challenge me with design and placement :)

Darth Rabbit

If you've been following me for a while, you will probably be aware of our two gorgeous bunnies, Toffee and Flopsy, and that we treat them slightly like children! As such, Fathers Day and Mothers Day are suitably celebrated in our household.

I didn't have much time to work on a Fathers Day card from the bunnies this year, but as my husband is an avid Star Wars fan, I pondered the concept of a Rabbit Darth Vader... A quick Google search helped my design along the way, and I did a freehand sketch based on the image, using white pencil and black card. I cut out the areas I wanted using my scalpel, and mounted it :)

Fathers Day Photographic Cards

[Photo taken on same day as this print of mine, and this photo that I had published in Letterpool.]

So yes, things have been a bit quiet here! I have been creating - but more a few simple cards, some photography and mending clothes. I have various oddments to share, it just might take a little time!

These cards were for my father and father in law for Fathers Day... My own photographs, simply mounted for maximum effect.
