The Younger Years III

I love this image.

If you came up to me today and asked me to draw you a butterfly, my priority would probably be symmetry. Make sure the left looks like the right.

These butterflies... Well, they have an equal likeness, but they are not symmetrical. And I love it.

Especially the middle butterfly - I love how the curves mirror each other. Childhood drawings are amazing. They capture the world in a way we struggle to feel free enough to do again. There is no regard for rules, it's just drawing because we want to.

And you know what? I even remember the pen I drew this with.

Woodblock Card "Design K"

When I saw this post over at Yardage Design I realised the limitless opportunites to create custom prints using something I have easy access to - woodblock letters!

I do intend to do some fabric work, but I'm much happier experiementing with colours and designs on card...

I decided to make this initial design into a simple card for a friend's birthday...

I adore the textures created thanks to the combination of the woodblock itself and my slightly messy brushstrokes when applying the paint!

Every single impression is unique, stunning, and they just work together so well! I love that they make a bold, statement print, and it is so versatile, too.

Expect many more to come ;)

Inspire: Catherine Hennessey

I love portraiture. And I respect people who can creates epic portraits even more because I find them so very difficult! Catherine Hennessey uses watercolour to create stunning portraits...

Her use of colour not only captures the person, light and dark; but also portrays such emotion.

 [Stagnant]

These images not only make me want to try yet another style of capturing a person on paper, but also to try watercolours in a completely new way. A technique that requires control to capture details in the features, but also complete relaxation and freedom as the colours flow.

[Dizzy]

I love this use of colour and lines!
