I think when you first get into crochet, there are certain projects which you feel you should try. A granny square, a flower, a butterfly and a heart were mine. Admittedly, I still haven't crocheted a heart, and yet have created my own patterns for toys. Who said I did things in an orderly manner?!
Anyway, it can take a while to find the right pattern for you, especially when there are so very many options out there. But for me, this butterfly pattern is perfection.
It's easy.
It's beautiful.
It's elegant enough for a lady's badge.
But cute enough for a child's toy.
And it offers options for different colour combinations and antennae.
What more could you want?!
As you can see, it's also quite addictive! This would be a great pattern to try with different wools, and also great for various accessories and decorations.

Yours look so pretty.
I thought I might have a stab at a bit of needlefelting for the body...will reveal all when I have finished...I have a bit of time to play with ideas yet!

Oh, these are just darling. My grandma taught me crochet when I was young, but I have since forgotten.
